We want people to know Jesus initially as Savior and Lord. “You will KNOW the truth and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32) We then want people to know Jesus experientially in increasing measure as Friend, Prince of Peace, Counselor, High Priest, Advocate, (fill in all the names of Jesus). This happens individually in our daily walk with Jesus and corporately as we worship, grow, and serve together. “I want to KNOW Christ and the power of his resurrection that I may share in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death.” Philippians 3:10
The Bible is one of the primary ways we get to know God. Without regular exposure to God's Word, we shouldn't expect to grow in our knowledge of Him. Here are a few scriptures to consider:
Hebrews 4:12 - "For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart."
2 Timothy 3:16 - "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of Godmay be complete, equipped for every good work."
Below are 2 different Bible reading plans that are designed to take you through the Bible in a year. One of the plans only has 2 readings a day, the other has 4 readings. Choose whichever seems the best fit for you. The point is not what plan you use or what version you read, but encountering God and hearing from Him.
If you have recently become a follower of / believer in Jesus, we would love to help you know Jesus better and begin your relationship with Him! We use a tool entitled, “Lessons on Assurance” from the Navigators. It is a little book that has five important lessons to help you get your walk with Jesus on a good foundation. It is best to do go through “Lessons on Assurance” with an older, more experienced follower of Jesus that we will match you up with.
