Frequently asked questions.
What is the purpose of Life Groups at MAC?
The goal of Life Groups is discipleship.
We believe this happens best as we:
1. Grow in deeper relationship with God,
2. Develop authentic biblical community, and
3. Fulfill our mission as a church to be disciples and make disciples.
In other words, we want to be people who follow Jesus and become like Jesus with others.
What do groups study?
Life Groups progress through a series of discipleship content to provide practical training and application for living like Jesus. In 2024, Life Groups will explore the following Biblical topics: Personal Witness, Spiritual Practices, & Spiritual Identity.
When do groups meet? And for how long?
Most groups meet in the evenings and last between 1.5-2.5 hours. They typically consist of a time of food and fellowship, followed by study and prayer.
How many people are typically in a Life Group?
On average, groups have between 10-14 people.
How long am I committed to a Life Group?
In the fall, we have many new groups and existing groups kick off with a 6-9 week series. This gives everyone a chance to jump in for a short commitment. Many of these groups stay together and keep meeting. We know that everyone goes through seasons of life, and therefore, some people can only be committed to a group for a short time. Yet, many times people end up meeting together for many years.
Do Life Groups take breaks?
Yes, typically groups will break around Christmas time and then around Memorial Day for the summer. We encourage groups to try and connect a couple of times during the summer for social gatherings.
May I bring my kids?
Yes, if you want to bring your children to a group, we will try and place you in a group with childcare. Each group that has kiddos determines it’s own childcare and they handle it. Ask your Life Group Leader what the plan is for the group. As a parent, it is up to you to be comfortable with what the group does or to find your own sitter. If finances are an obstacle, funds may be available to help cover the cost.
What if I don’t connect with the group? Can I try another one?
Yes, but it takes a while to get to know others and be comfortable. So, we encourage you to try it for at least a month. Then, if it doesn’t end up working for you, we can help you find another group.
